Armed Violence Monitors

In 2024, three In-Focus reports were published, addressing specific issues such as weapon seizures, victims of firearm incidents, and the use of firearms   in the context of domestic violence. A more general analysis of trends gathered through the  Armed Violence Monitoring Platform was conducted in four (4) published issues of the  Armed Violence Monitor Quarterly Reports.

3D-Printed Firearms

SEESAC also finalized a knowledge product, " 3D-Printed Firearms: State of Play, Challenges, and Law Enforcement Approach," providing critical insights and strategies for addressing this evolving threat.

Study on Hand Grenades

A Study on Hand Grenades Produced in the Western Balkans or Originating from the Western Balkans, together with the Best Practice Manual for the Forensic Examinations of Seized Hand Grenades Produced in or Originating from the Western Balkans, was developed in close cooperation with the Western Balkans authorities. The Study produced for law enforcement experts aims to enhance their knowledge and understanding of hand grenades and their associated risks.

Improving Media Coverage of Gender-Based Violence

SEESAC also developed key resources to address capacity-building needs identified at previous Task Force meetings, including the Analysis of Media Reporting on Firearm Misuse in Male Gender-Based Violence against Women in the Western Balkans and the Guidelines for officials of the ministries of interior and police services for communication with the media in cases of firearm misuse in gender-based violence. The development of Guidelines for Crisis Communication was also initiated, further deepening the requested support for capacity building in this area.

Research on Factors Fueling Demand and Misuse of Firearms in the Western Balkans

SEESAC has launched comprehensive research to better understand the factors driving firearm demand and misuse in the Western Balkans, employing quantitative and qualitative methods alongside social listening aiming to support evidence-based small-arms control measures. Data collection is underway, including interviews and focus groups with experts, citizens, and youth as well as a perception survey.
