Tracking armed
violence

Effectively tackling armed violence starts with understanding its patterns and impact.

SEESAC's Armed Violence Monitoring Platform (AVMP) remained an invaluable tool in 2024, providing real-time data and insights to shape evidence-based policies and actions that enhance regional safety.

In 2024, AVMP data highlighted both positive trends but also challenges in reducing firearm-related violence across the region:

- Stable incident rates: 3,464 firearm incidents were recorded, showing a 2% decline from 2023.
- Proactive law enforcement efforts: Weapon seizures accounted for 51% of these incidents.
- Reduction of victim: Firearm-related fatalities dropped by 21%, the number of people threatened by 13%, and those injured by 15% compared to 2023.
- Firearm incidents impact: Despite these reductions, firearm incidents claimed 119 lives (97 men and 22 women) and injured 367 people (283 men and 33 women).
